3 Handbags You Should Have in Your Closet
For those of you who don't know, Kate Spade passed away this week and I am heart broken. She was a style icon, fashion mogul, and major trendsetter in the footwear and accessories markets. Her name will live on as such, and her pieces (in my opinion) will never go out of style. I appreciate the Kate Spade brand for producing classic, functional pieces that can typically go with anything in your wardrobe. That being said, each style of bag has its purpose which is why you need these 3 basics in your closet ASAP!
1. CROSS BODY
Cross body bags are a great middle ground bag. They are the ones you use when you are going out for lunch with friends on the weekend, running errands, or just need something a bit less bulky. I usually use a cross body bag on days when I am not working as I won't need to carry any extras with me - clothes, lunch, gym shoes, etc. You can toss in your wallet, a lipstick or lip balm, a pair of sunglasses, and your phone and you're good to go! My favourite part is that you can also use them to make a statement or add colour to any outfit. Check out my Kate Spade picks below.
2. TOTE
Totes are perfect for days when you're heading into work and need that "bottomless Mary Poppins" style bag. They carry pretty much everything you need to get you through the day due to their size, but they also come in a variety of textures to suit your needs. Some are clean, structured and meant to keep their shape indefinitely, and some are much more flexible and can be folded up for easy packing. Bring your tote on vacation with you for a fabulous beach bag, or use as an overnight bag when staying away from home for the weekend! Kate Spade has a ton of great options, browse my faves here:
3. CLUTCH
Used mainly for formal events or night outs, clutches are usually dressier and the smallest of the three (so obviously you have to edit down your essentials). They typically hold a few cards, a lipstick or eyeliner, and maybe your phone. I use clutches to create a nice colour accent on an outfit, or to hold my necessities for a formal event like a wedding or launch event. Try going for a bold pattern, fun decal, or different texture to really make a statement! These are some that I love, again from Kate Spade:
