Spring Staples You Need to Refresh Your Wardrobe
Spring is officially here, even though you’d never know it with the winds in Toronto right now. Some days are sunny and warm, and others (like today) are overcast and chilly. The transitional months are like that here, can never make up their minds. However, I’m sure some of you live in a place where it’s warm right now so you can’t relate (#jealous). When it comes to Spring, you gotta be prepared for anything. One day you’ll need a coat, another day you’ll rock a romper or daisy dukes with some cute sunnies and be on your way. In order to breathe some life back into your wardrobe for the coming months, pick up a few of these staple pieces:
OUTERWEAR
As I mentioned, Spring weather can be quite finicky. Having some cute transitional coats can help you look cute, while still being weather appropriate. I’ve preached the importance of staying warm before, so obviously I’m not sacrificing that just because it’s single digit positive temps. My fave coats for Spring come in pastels and neutrals, and are light enough that you won’t get too hot. Keep in mind too: layering doesn’t just stop at winter. Layer your coats for Spring too. Think: Light down under denim or a sweater under a trench. A big trend for S/S 2019 is oversized blazers, so take your outfit up a notch with a relaxed, semi-formal look.
MIDI DRESSES
Pretty sure midi dresses can do no wrong. They honestly look good on everyone. It’s such a flattering length, just below the knee, and that makes them super versatile. Throw on a pair of thigh high boots for some extra wind protection, or pair together with your fave sandals when the sun decides to make an appearance. I’m really loving feminine details too, like bows, wrap details, and subtle ruffles. Shout out to camel and beige for being perfect all-year-round colours. I hope to be picking up a midi camel coloured dress for our upcoming trip to Vegas.
SNEAKERS
Sneakers are a super fun way to make an outfit more comfy and casual. As someone who vouches for an alliance between comfort and style, I obviously love a stylish sneaker. Wear them with a dress for a fun and flirty vibe, or with jeans and a blouse for an extra comfy workweek look. Opt for a pair with cute decals or colour combos. It adds a bit of flare to an otherwise commonplace piece.
CRISP WHITE BAGS
IMO, a crisp and clean white bag can elevate any outfit. It’s a neutral, so it goes it LITERALLY anything, and if you take care of it, it can brighten up your look. White is hard to maintain, so opting for a white bag is a huge commitment. But when it works, it really works. Style them with a polished and put-together office look, or pair them with your LBD for a GNO. Be sure to play it up with tied colourful scarves, or pops of colour.
