My Holiday Book List - Canadian Creative Book Club

My Holiday Book List - Canadian Creative Book Club

Tis’ the season for giving, receiving, and reading books! Whether that’s on the beach, on your lunch break, or just from the comfort of your couch at home, we’re indoors more than ever this time of year, giving us an opportunity to catch up on some page turning. I have a pile of books that I would love to get to, but I ‘never have time’. So for the rest of the month, and well into 2019, I will be making more time to chip away at my mountain of reads. I’m going on vacation in a few weeks, and am determined to finish at least one! Come along on this literary journey with me, and check out some of my fave past reads, and ones I’m looking forward to cracking open in the coming weeks.

WHITE GIRL PROBLEMS - BABE WALKER

READ THIS FOR: A BARREL OF LAUGHS, AND TONS OF EYE ROLLING

This one was really fun to read, especially on the beach. It’s part of a series that author Babe Walker has written, all about her extravagant and supremely fabulous life. From her expensive smoothie habits, to her literal obsession with Louboutins, Babe’s ‘white girl problems’ have landed her in shopping rehab. She is forced to overcome all sorts of challenges such as being the center of the universe, controlling her psycho alter-ego' ‘Babette’, and still looking perfect through it all. Babe is witty, self-absorbed, and super-rich, a combination that is sure to entertain. I never wanted it to end!

JUST KIDS - PATTI SMITH

READ THIS FOR: SOME MAJOR LIFE INSPO

I actually had to read this book for a class in university, but it turned out to be the best book I was ever forced to read. Definitely not a boring school textbook by any means, Patti Smith chronicles her life and love of partner-in-crime Robert Mapplethorpe. Through their early beginnings of the 1960’s, to the club kid era of late 80’s, Patti and Robert’s lives were nothing short of exciting. They inspired each other, shared a deep love for each other, and were both supportive until the very end of Robert’s life. This book is a tear jerker and a self-help book all rolled into one. Definitely worth the read.

THE RACKETEER - JOHN GRISHAM

READ THIS FOR: THRILLS, CHILLS, AND KILLS

If we’re being honest here, John Grisham has never let me down. Every one of his books I’ve read has had me at the edge of my seat until the very last word. The Racketeer in particular was quite the whirlwind adventure. When Judge Raymond Fawcett has been found dead - murdered even - along with his secretary, people start asking questions. Only one person knows who killed them and why, but he currently resides in Frostburg’s Federal Prison Camp. That person is Malcolm Bannister. He’s got information that the FBI require to solve the case, but everything comes at a price. Find out who killed the judge, and what Malcolm Bannister is hiding by giving this one a read.

SEX AND THE CITY AND US - JENNIFER KEISHIN ARMSTRONG

READ THIS FOR: NOSTALGIA, AND AN INSIDE LOOK INTO YOUR FAVE SHE-SERIES

I have mentioned this book before, but haven’t been able to finish it yet. It’s definitely coming with me on vacation because it’s the perfect beach-bum read. Fun, flirty, and fabulous, Jennifer Keishin Armstrong gives readers an inside look into the fashion-fueled phenomenon that is Sex and the City. Spanning almost 3 decades, the show has become gospel for so many 20 and 30-something women all around the world. This book shares the story behind creator Candace Bushnell, as well as all the exceptional people in her life that gave way to inspiration for the characters. If you’re as obsessed with SatC as I am, check this one out.

SLEEP SMARTER - SHAWN STEVENSON

READ THIS FOR: TIPS ON HOW TO SLEEP YOUR WAY TO BETTER HEALTH

I haven’t read this one yet, but it is coming with me on vacation, along with Sex and the City and Us. It is NO secret that I don’t sleep, and haven’t properly for a long time. But there are ways to fix that in order to live a better life. Good sleep helps with weight-loss, disease prevention, productivity, and even overall mind and bodily function. There are nothing but benefits to getting more zzz’s, so open this one up for some major tips, tricks, and life hacks. And here’s hoping Stevenson can clear some stuff up for me too!

HOW TO BE AN OVERNIGHT SUCCESS - MARIA HATZISTEFANIS

READ THIS FOR: #GIRLBOSS VIBES, AND HOW TO MAKE IT IN BUSINESS

Another one I haven’t read yet, but am dying to dive into, this one is a recommendation from The Skinny Confidential’s Lauryn Evarts. As a blogger who is trying to grow her following, I will gladly take all the business management and growth tips I can get. Hatzistefanis promises hacks on building a business from the ground up, working your fabulous booty off, and surrounding yourself with the best, most positive and encouraging people possible. I’ll be sure to look to this one for ways to expand my brand and my reach, while staying true to myself.

Do you have any recommendations to share with me? What are your fave reads from the past, and what are you exciting to crack open? I want to do some mad reading in 2019, so get those recs in ASAP.
