How to Make the Most of Father's Day 2020
This year, Father’s Day is going to look a little bit different. Ok, maybe a lot different, but that doesn’t mean it can’t still be filled with love and appreciation for the father figures in our lives! I refuse to let Father’s Day go to waste this year. So, I thought I’d compile a list of some of the ways my family will be celebrating, and some ways you can let him know how much he means to you. It’s the thought that counts at the end of the day.
VIRTUAL/E-GIFTS
As I’ve mentioned a few times before, we are in a high-tech digital age and should be extremely grateful for how easily accessible goods and services are to us at the moment. Think about it: online or physical gift cards, food delivery services, and even curbside pick-up are all great ways to still find something last minute for the special man in your life. Send him his favourite foods with Skip the Dishes or DoorDash, email him a gift card to his favourite store so he can do his own online shopping (guilty as charged..), or if you’re part of the same social bubble deliver him a thoughtful gift by hand with curbside pick-up. The options are endless, so take advantage of all the tech you have at your fingertips.
SOCIAL DISTANCE GET-TOGETHERS
With Ontario starting to roll out their Stage 2 of reopening, small get-togethers with your family and friends are now acceptable. Things like backyard BBQs, lawn drive-bys, or hiking and other outdoor activities can be fun ways to spend some quality time with those who we’ve been distanced from for so long now. Obviously ensure that you’re still being smart and safe, but take this time to enjoy the warm weather that typically comes alongside Father’s Day weekend.
LOTS OF COMMUNICATION
If virtual gifts or get-togethers are not safe options for you and your loved ones, there are tons of other ways to let him know you care. Some of the best ways to stay connected through all of this are having Zoom/Facetime calls to see each other’s faces, phone calls in case Zoom or Facetime aren’t available to you, or even just mailing a card/letter can be a thoughtful and special sentiment on Father’s Day this year. Just keep in mind that mail may have some delays due to the current global situation. Nevertheless, letting him know how important he is to you is the best thing you can do for the man in your life on Father’s Day this weekend.
Shout out to my dad’s first appearance on the blog. What are you doing to show your appreciation on Father’s Day? Do you have any special plans this weekend? And definitely be sure to wear your SPF if the social distance get-togethers are the way to go for you! It’s going to be a scorcher.
Don’t forget to smile! ☺
