5 Reasons Why a Girls' Night Out is the Ultimate Confidence Booster
It’s human nature to be social, to associate ourselves with people that share similar values and morals to our own. We gravitate towards those who bring out the best parts of us, and who know exactly how to put a smile on our faces (or at least we should anyway!). That is why the best way to boost your confidence and help you out of your rainy day/cold weather slump is to spend some time with your friends. It’s around this time of year that I start to retreat into myself, spending more time at home under the covers rather than out on the town with my besties. However, the older I get, the more I appreciate getting together and destressing over cocktails and a good gossip sesh. There are articles, articles, and even more articles that show how beneficial friendships can be for your confidence, so let’s chat about your new fave mood booster: the Girls’ Night Out (GNO).
1. A CHANCE TO UNLOAD
Chat about your relationships, your jobs, your newest addition to the collection of break outs on your chin, you name it and we’ll talk about it. One of the most valuable parts of a Girls’ Night Out is the opportunity to let you unload all of the stress you’ve built up throughout the week. Bond over mutual dislike of the new person in the office (or a mutual crush!), obsession over the new Ariana Grande song, or addiction to the avocado grilled cheese at your local deli. Girls time will help you realize that you aren’t suffering or obsessing alone, making life easier to cope with.
2. A CHANCE TO SHARE YOUR SUCCESS
Aside from my mum (and Adrian), my best friends are my biggest cheerleaders. They help me to celebrate my successes, no matter how small, which is something I’ve been trying to do more often. As previously mentioned, it’s important to celebrate even the smallest of victories, and having a cheer squad by your side when you do makes the success that much sweeter! Pump each other up before a big interview, pop champagne over the latest engagement ring, or just high five over getting to the gym before work. Whatever challenge you overcome, don’t forget your power posse is always behind you.
3. A CHANCE TO SEE FROM OTHER PERSPECTIVES
When I come to a fork in the road, a tough life-changing decision, I look to my friends for advice. Everyone has different experiences and different perspectives, which allows me to see things in a different light. Last year when I was struggling with a major life choice, I sat down with one of my best friends to hash things out. He helped me to see the pros and cons of the choice, and to put things into perspective for me. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, 2018 has been about prioritizing happiness, and sometimes you need a friend’s advice to give you that little push in the right direction.
4. A CHANCE TO SPLURGE
What is a GNO without manis, pedis, and a bottle of your fave sparkling rosé? I rarely splurge on stuff like this alone. Granted, I do occasionally get a solo pedi when I’m in desperate need, but think about how much more fun it is with your partner-in-beauty-crime sitting next to you! It is the best opportunity for self-care, and pampering yourself in such a manner obviously gets you one step closer to feeling like a major #GIRLBOSS. Think of it this way: fresh nails = fresh start to the week. Plus, wine is made from grapes and grapes are a fruit, so obviously wine is healthy for you…
5. A CHANCE TO BELONG
There is something to be said about feeling like you belong. Being part of a group and having a collective mentality is a major boost to your confidence. Alone, a soccer player is just practicing drills, but together with their team, they’re winning championship games! Sometimes, being part of group helps to bring you out of your shell and do things you never thought you could do before. People often thrive in group settings, so grab your girls and get going.
Everyone is busy, we’re all working, and some of us are moving to other continents in pursuit of our dreams.. but we never stop supporting each other! Schedule it in if you have to, but trust me, it’s way worth it to find time for a Girls’ Night Out. Do your girls give you confidence? What’s your fave part about spending time with your friends? And do you have any weird rituals with your besties that you find help to boost your mood? Let me know in the comments!
