2019: New Year, New Intentions
Happy New Year, friends! I can’t believe another year has come and gone, and I’m going to have to start writing 2019 on everything (it’s a stressful thought, ok?). Each year I learn more and more about myself, my life, my relationships, and the world we live in. I think I’ve done more growing in the last year or so than in the previous 22 years of my life, which is crazy to think about. 2018’s mantra was prioritize happiness, but 2019 will be a little different. While I’ll still be prioritizing happiness, I’ll be doing it from a different angle.
2019 is all about only do things that my heart is in 110%, and I’m going to be applying this to my life in a few different ways. The word resolution stresses me out, so let’s call them intentions instead:
INTENTION #1: Spend more time with friends
Friends are the family you get to choose, which is why I’m only choosing the best for myself for 2019. Surrounding yourself with positive people breeds positivity, so this year I am creating a positive life by prioritizing the relationships that encourage me to be better. I’ve seen so many people settle for mediocre friendships that I can no longer tolerate that for myself. As someone who intends to grow and change for the better this year, I want people in my life that propel me forward, not drag me back. When I’m with these kinds of people, I can’t help but be happy, so why settle for anything less!
INTENTION #2: Grow my personal brand
Over the last year, I have come to realize how much of my heart has been poured into this blog. I started it while my sights were still set on graphic design. And while that hasn’t completely changed, I am way more dedicated and passionate about writing than I have ever been before. I intend to focus way more of my time and efforts into planning and growing the blog, because my heart is in fact in it 110%, as I’m sure you can tell.
INTENTION #3: Work on myself
Something else that has come with 2018 is being way more self-aware than ever before. Part of this whole “work on myself” thing will be self-care, and ensuring that I’m putting myself first. However, another part of this will be attempting to adjust (not fix, because I know I’ll never be perfect) parts of myself that I feel need improvement. It takes a lot to be so in-tuned with yourself that you’re able to work on your faults, so I intend to dig deeper and attempt to turn my weaknesses into strengths!
INTENTION #4: Listen more
As a writer, obviously I have a lot to say.. sometimes too much. In 2019, I intend to listen more and be more observant of my surroundings. Not that I don’t do this already, but I’d really like to spend more time passively participating in what’s going on in my life. I do a lot of active engaging with experiences and people which is great, but I feel as though listening more will allow me to better understand other people! Plus, part of focusing on growing my personal brand (see #2) is listening to you guys, and focusing on bringing you content that is valuable to you! I want to know what you as a reader want to see, and what content you’ve liked thus far. So, I also intend to be more analytical and planned out with my content for this year.
What are some of your New Years intentions? Let’s work together to break the cliche of “resolutions”, and start working on “intentions” instead! I believe that it’s a much nicer approach to creating goals for yourself for 2019. Let me know yours in the comments!
